The Notary

Giuseppa Maria Pulvirenti was born in Catania on August 16, 1971, to her father Salvatore, an Associate Professor of Labor Law at the University of Catania, recently deceased and already retired, and her mother Vita, a teacher of Law, Public Finance, and Economics, now retired. She has a brother named Santi, also a jurist, currently the Deputy Head of the procurement department at the Department of Computer Science at the University of Catania. 

Since May 2003 she has been living in Parma, and in 2012 she happily became a mother to Alice.  

She works as a Notary at her office in Viale Mentana 14/A in Parma. At the beginning of her career, in May 2003, her office was located at Piazzale Corte d'Appello 5. In 2004, convinced that a Notary should be in service to the client, she founded the first notarial studio in San Polo di Torrile, bringing the notary closer to citizens. The studio is still open to the public every day at Strada n. 19/C. In 2014 (10 years after the aforementioned pioneering opening), the Ministry of Justice, during the revision of the table, established a dedicated office. 

 

She is proficient in German and English, specializing in: 

* Legal German at the Max-Planck-Institut fur Auslandisches offentliches Recht und Volkerrecht (Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law) in Heidelberg, Germany. She attended various German language courses at the Goethe Institut Sprachschule Deutschkurse in Mannheim, as well as at the Universities of Heidelberg, Freiburg im Breisgau, and Vienna. 

* Legal English obtained at the University of Parma in the "EFLIT - English for Law" course lasting 4 months in Parma in 2011, sustaining the final exam in the same University and a refresher course in 2015. The "Legal London Study Visit" took place from November 4th to 8th, visiting prominent legal institutions such as the Old Bailey, the Royal Courts of Justice, and the UK Supreme Court (which has replaced the House of Lords for several years). The visit also included exploring the Inns of Court. 

Before practicing as a notary, she held a variety of roles to finance her studies, including: 

- Presenter from 1993 to 1999 for the German company Vorwerk AG. She subsequently became a coordinator of a team of 7 agents in Salerno for 6 months in early 2000, and then in Milan until March 2001 for the international promotion of Vorwerk "Bimby 3300 and TM21." 

- Collaborator of Prof. Mario Libertini, Ordinary Professor of Private Law at the University of Catania until 1999, and later, an Ordinary Professor of Industrial Law at the University "La Sapienza" in Rome. Her role involved drafting legal opinions, arbitration, and preparing memoranda and summonses for cases with public or private entities. 

- External Lawyer from April 2001 to April 2003 at the Law Office of Catania, specifically dealing with companies owned by the Municipality of Catania in close collaboration with executives, the Mayor, and the Deputy Mayor. In 2001, she received a special commendation from the Mayor for merits and results achieved in managing operations involving the Administration. 

- She arrived in Parma in May 2003 and has since lived there with her family. 

 

Exams and competitions: 

In 2001, she passed the notary competition (51st classified) announced with D.D. December 10, 1999. 

In 2002, she passed the subsequent notary competition announced with D.D. June 4, 2000, and passed the exam (a double exam success for scoring purposes in transfer competitions). 

In 2003, she was appointed a notary and assigned the position in Parma with G.U. 4th Special Series - Competitions and exams no. 40 of May 23, 2003. 

In 1997, she passed the National Bar Exam, enabling her to practice as a lawyer. 

 

Educational background: 

- She attended the "primina" at 5 years old and passed the exam to be directly admitted to the second elementary school at the Statale Grassi Pasini school in Acireale. 

- She obtained the elementary school diploma and the middle school diploma with the highest grades. 

- From 1984 to 1989, she attended the Classical Lyceum Gulli e Pennisi in Acireale and completed her degree with a full score (60/60) in the Maturity Exam. 

- In 1989, she ranked first in a national poetry competition hosted by the Classical Lyceum of Scafati, with a judging committee chaired by writer Alberto Moravia, who later presented her a trophy during the award ceremony. 

- In the academic year 1992/1993, she graduated in Law with honors with a thesis on "The constitutional value of the Amnesty and Pardon Law," supervised by Prof. Luigi Arcidiacono. 

- She became a research fellow in Constitutional Law and collaborated with the chair of Professor Luigi Arcidiacono, an ordinary professor of constitutional law at the Faculty of Law and public law at the Faculty of Economics and Commerce of the University of Catania. 

- In September 1994, she successfully participated in and won a competition organized by the Ministry of Scientific Research for the award of a scholarship of 20 million Italian lire. She went to Germany to study conflicts between constitutional bodies at the Max-Planck-Institut für Ausländisches öffentliches Recht und Völkerrecht (Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law) in Neuenheimer Feld 535, Heidelberg (Baden-Württemberg, Germany). She stayed there for a year (October 1994 - October 1995) as a Visiting Scholar for scientific research studies, receiving 3 successive scholarships from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for perfecting the German language. She attended a course on Economics at the University of Vienna in 1997 and two language enhancement courses in Germany in 1996 in Freiburg im Breisgau and in 1999 in Heidelberg, both at the respective universities. 

- From 2002 to 2011, she taught at the School of Specialization in Legal Professions: in 2002 at the notarial school of Catania, from 2003 at the notarial school of Parma, and then in the years 2009/2010/2011 at the University of Parma. 

Since 1999, she has been studying the institution of Trust, initially self-taught and later attending the first in-depth course organized by the "Trust in Italy" Association in Bologna in 2004, of which she has been an associated member for many years. Since 2015, she holds the position of "Local Representative for Parma and Province" within the Association. Over the years, she has participated in numerous in-depth/update courses and conferences on Trust, including: 

In 2010, a course on Trust in Italy and Switzerland in Lugano, with scientific director Maurizio Lupoi. 

In 2010, an update course on Trust in Rome, directed and coordinated by Prof. Maurizio Lupoi. 

In 2011, she organized a specialization course on Trust and accounting in Parma at her own studio, with the participation of Prof. Giorgio Semino, an ordinary professor of tax law at the University of Genoa, Giuseppe Lepore from Savona, Maurizio Bastianelli from Ancona, Alessandro Allamprese Manes Rossi from Padua, and Ilaria Della Vedova from Venice. 

In 2011, she was selected to draft a Trust document for the Association's conference held in Sestri Levante. 

In the following years, she studied the fiduciary contract and participated in the notary course held at the notarial school of Milan organized by the Trust in Italy Association. 

 

Scientific and publishing activities: 

In 1999, Notes on the revocation of administrators and replacement of administrators following a resolution of liability action in Rivista del Notariato 2002. 

In 2001, Mixed companies and the provision of public services (Contribution in the volume published in Studiorum Collectio - Legal Affairs Directorate of the City of Catania, pages 261-286). 

In 2005, Commentary on Articles 2343-2343 bis-2344 of the Civil Code, Estimate of contributions of goods in kind and credits - Acquisition of the company from promoters, founders, partners, and administrators - Non-payment of shares. Fauceglia-Schiano di Pepe -, Commented Code of SPA. 

Currently, she is in the process of publishing a treatise on Trust and Fiduciary Assignments. 

In addition to typical notarial activities, she also provides consultancy on the following topics: 

- Development and management of inheritance involving foreign subjects and foreign legislations. 

- Conditions and prerequisites for the transactive resolution of conflicting situations to avoid litigation. She has gained particular professional experience in the following sectors: 

- Trusts, fiduciary assignments, planning, and protection of individuals' and companies' assets, family pacts. 

- Corporate law, in particular: operations of listed companies, extraordinary operations, mergers and split-ups, assembly minutes, debt refinancing. 

- Experience in the field of non-profit organizations.
